Collegio dei Nobili – herringbone parquet flooring

The Collegio dei Nobili in the center of Koper is one of the most important historical building complexes in Slovenia and the oldest example of school architecture in the country. The monumental U-shaped building with an inner atrium was constructed in the late 17th century as an educational center for students from Istria and the wider region, and over the centuries it has significantly shaped the cultural and humanistic development of the area.

In the summer of 2025, an extensive renovation of the complex was completed, encompassing the school building, the inner atrium, the entrance garden, and the renovated gymnasium. The goal of the renovation was to preserve and highlight the building’s exceptional architectural and historical values, which blend early Baroque Venetian influences with humanistic and late Renaissance elements.

Materials were selected for the renovation that respect the building’s heritage character while ensuring a high-quality user experience for modern educational spaces. Parquet flooring was installed throughout the interior, laid in an elegant herringbone pattern. The natural wood surface adds warmth, sophistication, and timelessness to the space, connecting with the building’s historic architecture.

Today, the renovated Collegio dei Nobili successfully combines a rich cultural heritage with modern educational needs and remains one of the most important architectural symbols of Koper and Slovenian Istria.
