A Terrace with Character – Garapa and a Natural Patina

The character of architect Polona Senčar Otoničar’s home extends beyond the interior. For the terrace, Garapa wood was chosen for its warm, natural appearance and the way it connects the architecture of the house with its surroundings.

The wood is intentionally left untreated, allowing it to develop a natural patina over time. This gradual change is part of its appeal, giving the terrace more character and celebrating the natural ageing of the material.

As indoors, the choice of materials outside reflects the same focus on durability, functionality and a natural aesthetic.

CUSTOMER STATEMENT:

We chose Garapa for the outdoor terrace because we liked its natural look and how well it suited the house. We deliberately decided not to oil the wood, but to let it weather and turn grey naturally. After one year, it has already developed a beautiful grey patina and now blends in really well with the untreated wood on the façade.
I like that the terrace does not feel like a separate element, but rather as part of the overall story of the house.
